Śrī Śiva Āratī
oṁ jai śiva oṁkārā, swāmī hara śiva oṁkārā
brahma viṣṇu sadāśiva (2)
arddhāṅgī dhārā
oṁ jai śiva oṁkārā
Glory to You, Oh Shiva! Glory to You, Oh Omkara! May Brahmā, Vishnu and the assembly of other Gods, including the great Lord Shiva, relieve me of my afflictions!
ekānana caturānana
pañcānana rājai, swāmī pancānana rajai
hansānana garuḍāsana (2)
vṛṣavāhana sājai
oṁ jai śiva oṁkārā
Being the Absolute, True being, Consciousness and Bliss, You play the roles of all the three Gods - Brahmā, Vishnu and Shiva. As Vishnu, You have but one face, as Brahmā four and as Shiva five. They gladden the sight of all who behold them. As Brahmā You prefer the back of the swan for Your seat, as Vishnu You like to ensconce Yourself on the back of Garuda and as Shiva You make the sacred bull Your conveyance; all these stand ready. Oh Great Lord, please rid me of my afflictions!
do bhuja cārū catur-bhuja
daśa bhujāte sohe, swāmī daśa bhujāte
sohe
tīnoṁ rūpa nirakhatā (2)
tribhuvana jana mohe
oṁ jai śiva oṁkārā
As Brahmā, you possess two arms, as Vishnu four and as Shiva (Dashabahu) ten, all of which look matchlessly lovely. No sooner do the inhabitants of the three spheres behold You than they are all enchanted. Oh great Lord Omkara, please rid me of my afflictions!
akṣamālā vanamālā
ruṇḍamāla dhārī, swāmī ruṇḍamāla dhārī
candāna mṛgamada sohai (2)
bhāle śaśi dhārī
oṁ jai śiva oṁkārā
You are, Oh great Lord Omkara, wearing a garland of Rudrakshas, another of forest flowers, the third of skulls; Your forehead, glistening in the moonlight which it holds, is smeared with sandal- paste and musk. Please rid me of my afflictions!
śvetambara pītāmbara bāghambara aṅge,
swāmī bāghambara aṅge
sanakādika brahmādika (2)
bhūtādika saṅge
oṁ jai śiva oṁkārā
Oh great Lord Omkara, Your body is attired in white and yellow silken clothes and in tiger skin, while in Your company are troops of ghosts, Gods like Brahmā and Divine seers like Sanaka. Please rid me of my afflictions!
kara meṁ śreṣa kamaṇḍalu
cakra triśūla-dharatā, swāmī cakra triśūla-
dharatā
jagakartā jagabhartā (2)
jaga pālana-kartā
oṁ jai śiva oṁkārā
Oh great Lord Omkara, You hold a kamandalu (the mendicants water-pot) in one of Your hands and in another a trident; You bring joy to all, destroy all distress and sustain the whole world. May You rid me of my afflictions!
brahma viṣṇu sadāśiva
jānata avivekā, swāmī jānata avivekā
praṇavākṣara ke madhye (2)
ye tīno ekā
oṁ jai śiva oṁkārā
The ignorant (unwise and stupid) know Brahmā, Vishnu and Shiva as three individual Gods, but they are all indistinguishably fused into a single mystic syllable ‘OM’. Please rid me of my afflictions!
triguṇa swāmījī kī āratī
jo koī nara gāveṁ, swāmī jo koī nara gāveṁ
kahata śivānanda swāmī (2)
mana vāñchita phala pāveṁ
oṁ jai śiva oṁkārā
Sri Swami Shivananda says ‘He who recites this arati to the Lord of the three gunas-sattva, rajas and tamas - attains fulfillment of his heart’s desire’. Oh great Lord Omkara, may You rid me of my afflictions!
oṁ jai śiva oṁkārā, swāmī hara śiva oṁkārā
brahma viṣṇu sadāśiva (2)
arddhāṅgī dhārā
oṁ jai śiva oṁkārā
Glory to You, Oh Shiva! Glory to You, Oh Omkara! May Brahmā, Vishnu and the assembly of other Gods, including the great Lord Shiva, relieve me of my afflictions!
